The newest of the members at the Kamogawa Boxing Gym, Itagaki Manabu is considered one of the elites. Itagaki has above average speed, great reflexes, and an awareness in the gym like none other. Itagaki Manabu was going to attend college until he was scouted by Yagi and has since become a member of the KBG.

Itagaki Manabu really admires Makunouchi Ippo and considers him his Senpai. His goal is to become strong like Ippo and to one day be able to face his arch nemesis Imai Kyousuke. When Umezawa Masahiko left to pursue a job as a manga artist he took over his position at the Makunouchi Fishing Boat.
