The former JBC Featherweight Champion, and former OPBF Featherweight Champion.  He is the man responsible for giving Makunouchi Ippo’s record an L. Date Eiji is a hard working, and intelligent boxer.

Date is one of the older boxers in the series (quite frankly I think hes the oldest).Everyone in the series respects Date. Having been around boxing for quite some time he is one of the boxers in the anime with the most experience.

After his second loss to Ricardo Martinez, Date, went back into retirement. Although he retired he did not go too far the boxing scene as he is now a boxing trainer at the Nakadai Boxing Gym.
